Membership to FIDA-Kenya is open to Kenyan female advocate, lawyers, and law students. A member should identify with the cause of FIDA-Kenya and be willing to volunteer her services. The FIDA-Kenya Constitution provides for 3 categories of membership. These include; ordinary member, affiliate member, and honorary member.
Category A- Advocate of over 11yrs, Entry fee ksh 2250, Annual subscription ksh 4500
Category B – Advocate of over 6-10yrs, Entry fee ksh 1500, Annual Subscription ksh 3000
Category C – Advocate of 0-5yrs, Entry fee Ksh 1125, Annual Subscription ksh 2250
Category D – Student, Entry fee Ksh 750, Annual Subscription ksh 1000
- Being a FIDA member, the best gift is to have the opportunity to give back to the society. To support women and girls in need of legal aid and contribute to legal awareness and advocacy to protect their rights.
- Free access to FIDA-Kenya Resource Centre based at the Headquarters. FIDA-Kenya remains the premium organization whose research on women rights forms a reference point both for the Kenyan Government and International Community. Members have free access to FIDA publications and reports.
- Free FIDA-Kenya bi-annual newsletter. Members also get an opportunity to publish their legal articles in this newsletter and advertise their various services. For law students, this is an opportune space to make debut publications of their legal work.
- Invitations to FIDA Kenya members’ functions. These include the annual retreat, member’s mentorship forums, mediation trainings among other certification trainings and legal aid days. Some of these functions attract CPD points for compliance in acquisition of legal practicing certificates.
- Eligibility for selection as a service provider for FIDA Kenya work.
- Opportunities to represent FIDA Kenya various events including international conferences.
- FIDA-Kenya grows talent and remains a highly attractive space to identify female lawyers of competency to serve both in public and private sector service. Members receive references from FIDA for such arising opportunities and, subject to availability of funds, the secretariat organizes for interview coaches.
To enjoy your membership fully and contribute to the vision and mission of FIDA-Kenya, it is important for you to participate in the organization’s activities highlighted in the annual members’ calendar. Members are encouraged to be up to date with their subscriptions, be pro-active and participate in the activities of the organization such as;
- Annual General Meetings and any other general meetings. Members voice matters. Their feedback builds the FIDA-Kenya we desire.
- Join FIDA-Kenya members’ social platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram. These forums allow members to be updated on a real time basis. This is also members’ opportunity to give real time feedback and be able to participate on emergency response.
- Enrolling in the pro bono scheme.
- Participating in the Family Mediation Program as a mediator.
